Accessing and Piloting in the NHS for Overseas Companies

BoxHealth was commissioned to support an overseas start-up entering the UK market. Their innovative product seeks to diagnose early onset dementia and cognitive impairment.

Summary

BoxHealth was commissioned to produce market insights for a European company looking to enter the UK healthcare system, to launch its product that supports the early diagnosis of dementia and cognitive impairment. This involved guided discovery sessions with UK clinical staff, researchers and the company’s team where we mapped the existing and proposed new pathways for dementia patients.

Challenge

Entering the UK NHS system for overseas companies can present a number of challenges. One of which is access to clinical staff, and a real-world environment in which to pilot. Box Health helps international companies meet clinical professionals in the UK and begin their journey to an NHS contract, supporting them in each step, clarifying and translating internal processes for an external audience. Working with senior delivery staff from an NHS Partnership Trust we led two discovery sessions and conducted desktop research into existing care pathways. This allowed us to understand how the product could be integrated in the current system and what accommodations might be required.

Solution

All the discovery conversations and research were synthesised into an in-depth report. This included possible market iterations for the product. We also helped to secure networking opportunities that have since led to the submission of an NIHR programme grant between the company and NHS partner. This real-world trial will help to evidence the feasibility of the product in the NHS system alongside its economic impact on services.
